Eight minutes to condense a three-year marathon: this is the rule given to each student, when creating the number with which they will rush out of the school shelter. In-depth technical training, multidisciplinary broadening, dramaturgical work, he will have gone through everything during his training. But above all he will have gained a wide cultural openness, through contact with his colleagues, who arrive from all continents. Exit is two hours of virtuosity, energy and audacity. But it is also a live portrait of a generation struggling with a world in upheaval.

For each new creation, the circus artist steps out of their comfort zone to explore beyond what they know. Discovering new sensations and ideas, acquiring skills, and pushing movements to reveal themselves. This stage is well known, yet essential. But we often forget what comes after, what remains to be accomplished with this newly discovered artistic space.
In this collective workshop, Hanna Mampuys proposes to address this phase of appropriation. How to expand one’s comfort zone to include this still hostile place for the artist? How to set the new boundaries of this moving zone?

During supervised collective projects, students are confronted with directors, choreographers, or circus artists, chosen for their artistic quality and their ability to lead them in a creative process. These situations aim to expose the student to original artistic languages that they can use to express their creativity while being aware of the entire creative group with which they are evolving. These projects result in public presentations and allow for the exploration of all facets of contemporary circus performance. From conception to realization, the student takes part in the design, construction, and implementation of the show, serving as a performer under the direction of a stage director.
This year, the collective of 3rd-year students is directed by Claudio Stellato.

A phrase as a working basis: “I can be whatever I want, when I want.”
The body and emotions are pushed further, in search of other circus languages. It is a project that aims to encourage artists to face different expression techniques in the world of performance.
You will find no political or social message here, but simply an artistic vision of who we are in this madness called “life.”

Little Games without Consequences ?The starting point of this show is play.
The pleasure of playing is a strong bond that has existed since childhood, uniting all beings and through which we are able to recognize ourselves, to identify with each other.
We explore the fall, failure, winning or losing. How does an individual or a group react to success or failure? How does rebellion arise?
We will create a collective work, possibly different each night depending on the risks taken by the artists, but also the participation of the audience, whom we will invite to play with us.

EXIT 22A succession of acts, each representing a universe of its own, Exit is two hours of virtuosity, energy, and daring. It is also a vivid portrayal of a generation grappling with a world in upheaval.

Message to the sleeping volcanoesMessage to the sleeping volcanoes is both a constant celebration of our lives and a manifesto of confronting our realities. A song to soothe and a cry to awaken. In a succession of scenes, bodies experience domination and submission, exuberance and calm, joy and pain. Seventeen performers bound by the imprint of gestures, in constant search of emancipation. Directed by Breno Caetano, it embodies a humanity that continues to distort the ordinary.

Confrontation with others, and the relationship with oneself. Happiness as a generic subject, highlighted by the health context.
The representation is intended to be an outcome, the fruit of these individual influences and the chance moments of creation.

Having studied both at ESAC and P.A.R.T.S., Alexander Vantournhout’s physical language bears the influence of both contemporary dance and circus. In 2022 he’s returning to ESAC to collaborate with the third year students, who’re the final year of their training. Together they re-imagine the circus apparatus and question how the discipline they studied for many years can become more human and more collaborative.

TRY OUTThe form you will discover is a performance, a mixture of processes from the darkest to the most brilliant which arise from the spirit of collective work.
You will be guided through dark corridors and twisted corners where roles are freed from any archetype.
It is a physical manifestation, in the same way as the steam of boiling water which must find its way out by any means. Accompanied by techno melodies from the 2010s, isn’t that the best way to let go? It is in this fleeting moment that you will perceive the power that emanates from a group – the collective.
